Presenters Cat Deeley and Patrick Kielty’s relationship has captured the hearts of many as they continue to offer rare glimpses into their high-profile lives.

From their first meeting as co-presenters on the BBC talent show Fame Academy in 2002, to their whirlwind romance, secretive wedding, and the joys and challenges of raising two children, their journey together has been filled with love, laughter, and resilience.

However, in recent times, the pair have faced a few challenges in their relationship which has led to raised eyebrows amongst fans.

We've taken a deeper look exploring the key moments that have shaped their relationship and the drastic decisions they've had to make throughout the years.

Family life

Cat and Patrick first met in 2002 when they co-presented the BBC talent show Fame Academy. Their professional relationship quickly blossomed into a personal one, with the pair growing close over the years. Despite keeping their romance largely private at first, in 2012, Patrick confirmed their relationship.

After several years of dating, the couple tied the knot in a secret ceremony in September 2012. The wedding took place in Rome, at St Isidore's Church, a small Irish church near the Vatican, and was attended by their closest friends and family.

The intimate ceremony was officiated by a Belfast-based priest and friend of Patrick's. The couple later welcomed their two sons Milo, who is now eight, and James, five.

Cat and Patrick have continued to juggle demanding careers with family life. Patrick, who hosts The Late Late Show in Ireland, often travels for work, while Cat has taken on new responsibilities as the co-presenter of This Morning in 2023 alongside Ben Shephard.

A source told OK!: "They are a really strong couple and have been through a lot together. They’ve navigated their busy careers and the challenges of raising children with grace. They’re determined to make the relationship work."

Gun scare

In 2020, while living in Los Angeles, Cat and Patrick were caught up in a terrifying gun scare that involved their young son, Milo. The details of the scare remain mostly private, but the distress it caused was undeniable.

The incident occurred when Patrick and Milo were at a Los Angeles shopping mall when an armed situation unfolded nearby. The family was understandably shaken by the event, and it left Cat and Patrick reevaluating their living situation and the safety of their children.

Cat and Patrick, who had already been living in Los Angeles for some time, realised that it was no longer a place they felt comfortable raising their two children. In interviews after the scare, Cat admitted that it was a wake-up call that made them rethink their environment.

She told OK!: "After the gun scare, it was clear that things had to change. We couldn't continue living in fear, and we wanted our children to grow up in an environment that felt safer. It was a tough decision, but ultimately it felt right for us as a family."

Family tragedy

This Morning's Cat was notably absent from the funeral of her mother-in-law, Mary Kielty, in March 2025. The funeral took place in Dundrum, Northern Ireland, where Mary's son, Patrick Kielty, serves as the host of The Late Late Show.

A representative for Deeley explained that she remained in London to manage school drop-offs and pick-ups for their two young sons, Milo, eight, and James, five. Additionally, she continued her hosting duties on This Morning alongside co-presenter Ben Shephard.

Mary Kielty, 84, passed away peacefully at her home in Co Down. She was the widow of Jack Kielty, who was tragically killed during the Troubles in 1988.

Vow renewal

Cat has previously expressed that she has no intention of renewing her wedding vows with Patrick, attributing this decision to her minimal involvement in their original wedding planning.

In a 2023 interview, she reflected on their 2012 ceremony in Rome, stating: "I barely even did my own wedding. Patrick went and tried the food and did all that. I never even saw the place where I got married before I got married – that’s how uninvolved I was."

She further elaborated that she doesn't feel the need for a vow renewal, saying: "I don’t care, as long as everybody was there and had a good time – it doesn’t bother me."

This Morning airs Mondays-Fridays at 10am on ITV1.
